Who?

Dr Matt is known for his rapid fire and divergent thinking, drawing ideas from a range of sources and making connections to form novel ideas. He has 30 years’ experience as a magician with an extensive knowledge of optical illusion design and science trickery. A two-times winner of the international Best Illusion of the Year contest, a museum exhibit designer, Genii magazine columnist, and has lectured at the most prestigious magic conventions in the world.
He’s a lapsed atomic physicist who now teaches science & maths through his demonstration packed magic shows. Teacher’s regularly use his creations and thinking in their lessons to engage students. Matt has consulted for Derren Brown’s West End show, Heston Blumenthal’s Fat Duck restaurant, and privately for magicians who prefer to remain anonymous. Now he’s offering that service to you!

What and How?

This is a new service, and so details will no doubt evolve. For now, the idea is to offer an online consultancy call. Much like a therapy or counselling session but with less tears. These could be a one-off chat to work on something specific or a longer-term relationship where ideas are developed over time. Matt can also help with the design work offline. For those living closer to home in the UK, we may also be able to arrange in-person visits in a workshop or studio.
Before beginning work with you, Matt would like to know where you think he can help. He’ll be very honest if he feels the work is outside of his areas of expertise and can then sign post you to a suitable alternative. From that initial expression of interest via email ( matt@sciencemagicshows.co.uk ) you will be invited to book an online call slot. Initially these will be 30 minutes in length as that seems to be the optimum for maintaining focus.
As an introductory offer the price will be £50 (70 USD, 60 EUR) for this session. Payment will be via PayPal. This will need to be paid 48 hours in advance. We cannot issue a refund if cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice as other work will have been turned down to accommodate your session.
Clients can record the meeting to avoid having to take extensive notes, but this is on the understanding that the video is kept private and not shared. Matt wishes to respect the work of others. Ideas from other published performers that are shared will be credited when known but the client is reminded to do their due diligence in researching sources to avoid infringing on others work.
